Earlier today I was speaking with a potential distributor/tuner/supplier for our Z community about the Zemulator and exactly how it works. One concern was the fact that in order to tune with the Zemulator, its optimal to have a ConZult so you can datalog a few additional points of information that make it very easy to identify what areas of the map your computer is using. Its important to know that information otherwise you would only be making an educated guess as to what map points to change for your desired results. Well, I found a solution which will make the Zemulator totally free from needing a ConZult, although the Conzult will still be recommended to datalog all points of data. In addition to that, with a small additional piece of harware in the design, the Zemulator will have real time tracing ability which will show you exactly what point in the map is being used as the engine is running. A datalogging feature will also be part of the program so you can review the data after a dyno pull. This is really the optimal way of doing it. I dont have this feature with my version of the Zemulator because I have been using my DAQ system to extrapolate the data necessary for determining the map points used. I'm sitting on the fence about implementing this feature though.. I dont want to stagnate the progress of getting it out there to you. I've mentioned it on just about every occasion that I have posted about the details of the Zemulator that although it is not absolutely necessary to have a ConZult to tune with the device, it is still highly recommended. You could *borrow* a buddy's ConZult to tune your car with the Zemulator if it came down to it. :) It is not necessary to have a ConZult for the Zemulator to work nor do you need a laptop/desktop computer connected to the Zemulator for the car to run. In order to implement real time trace ability, it is going to bump the price of the Zemulator up to about $600. Just a hair over the other guy's chip, but with full tunability.... Add up the price of an SAFC, ITC, Stage3+ ECU and I'm pretty sure its considerably more than $600.. Let me know your ideas on this - I'm trying to make a decision on where to go with this..
